Behind the recruiter - Ryan Cobb

We've decided to resurrect our 'Behind the Recruiter' series, where we take some time out to discuss what some of our best recruiters get up to both in and out of work. Up first is Ryan Cobb. Ryan joined the company in late 2019 and has become one of the top performers in our Engineering and Technical team.

You’ve been at ProTech now for a couple of years – how are you finding it?

My desk is predominately contract and requires me to work at a fast and reactive pace, which is still just as fun and challenging today, as it was when I first started 2 years ago. Every day presents a new challenge and overcoming these challenges by thinking outside the box is extremely rewarding – I couldn’t have ask for a better career path!

What sort of industries do you currently recruit for?

My team covers Engineering, Manufacturing and Technical sectors working with both blue collar and white collar contract Engineers.

What sort of job roles do you spend most of your time filling?

Our ‘Bread & Butter’ job roles consist of the following;

·    Engineering Designers - Mechanical, Electronic & Electrical.

·    Assemblers - Mechanical & Electro-Mechanical.

·    Fitters - Mechanical and Electrical

·    Welder Fabricators – TIG & MIG.

·    CNC - Programmers, Setters, Operators, Millers, Turners and Grinders

·    Inspectors - Quality, PCB and Mechanical

·    PCB Technicians - Assemblers and Solderers

·    Solderers - Hand, Through-Hole and Surface Mount to various IPC / ESA standards

·    Wirers - Panel Wirers, Machine Wirers and Cable Assemblers

·    Testers - Technicians and Engineers

What do you like to get up to outside of work?

Cliché I know, but pre-Covid I loved to travel with my partner (mainly around Europe) and explore new sites and cities. Now we are coming out of lockdown my other passion is attending outdoor events / gigs – next month I already have 4 gigs booked in (The Sheepdogs, Jimmy Eat World, The Kooks and The Blue Stones!)

What would be your idea of the perfect day (off work!)?

Heading into the city (London) / getting lost and discovering new places – there’s always a few hidden gems to find along the way. Wondering around a few record stores, buying a couple of ‘old school’ vinyl’s and chilling out in the evening.

What does the ideal candidate look like and any advice you would give?

The ideal candidate is someone who’s transferable skillset and previous experiences matches the needs of the client. Ultimately, the ideal candidate is someone who will join a company and instantly improve the businesses delivering excellent results.
