On the 30th March 2020, Smiths Group PLC confirmed it had joined the consortium of significant UK industrial, technology and engineering businesses coming together to produce medical ventilators for the NHS. The companies involved in the VentilatorChallengeUK Consortium received formal orders from the UK Government in excess of 10,000 units, with an implicit pressure on turnaround time due to the nature and seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic.

It was clear at the beginning of the process, that as Smiths Group PLC focused on ramping up production of their Smiths Medical paraPAC plus™ ventilators, they would require a substantial increase in highly skilled people to join their workforce to help accommodate the massively increased volume of work as they pivoted towards this critical project.
